Silk spiders are araneomorphic spiders of the Nephilidae (Nephilengys) genus and of the Araneidae family. They are present in Oceania and Asia. The males of these species are smaller than the females : 0.13 to 0.2in (3.5 to 5.9mm) against 0.4 to 0.7in (10.4 to 18.6mm). These spiders build large orbital webs, the centers of which start from silky spherical retreats.
