During the 1000 years of their reign, the Mayans venerated the scarlet macaw, as the symbol of the all-powerful Sun God. In Honduras, the ruins of Copán are marked by their imprint. Many figures of this bird are carved on this Mayan archaeological site. Its name is even included in the king founder's name of the dynasty K'inich Yax K'uk Mo', Mo' meaning scarlet macaw.
