Former property of Charles Heidsieck

In addition to a magnificent restored windmill, Verzenay has another original feature, a lighthouse worthy of the Atlantic coast overlooking a sea of vines! This impressive building can be seen from afar. It was built in 1909 by Joseph Goulet, a wine merchant, to promote his champagne brand. Its lighthouse quickly became a place of celebration with its ‘guinguette’, restaurant, and open-air theatre. Half destroyed during the First World War, the lighthouse became the property of Champagne Charles Heidsieck, who sold it to the commune of Verzenay in 1987.
