The anatomy of the Comtois horse's mouth is adapted to grazing short grass, which is richer in nutrients. Its teeth are made up of sharp incisors designed to cut grass, and molars and bicuspids developed to grind food into fine particles to make them more easily assimilated. Its permanent hypsodont teeth show a continuous growth of 0,078 to 0,11 inch (2 to 3 mm) per year which compensates for the wear and tear of the dental table.
