Of volcanic origin, the Rocher de la Caravelle springs like a pellet about 33 ft (10 m) above sea level and culminates at 95 ft (29 m). This conical island circumscribed on all sides has an average diameter of about 164 ft (50 m) and covers a total area of 0.8 acres (0.32 ha). Uninhabited, isolated, and devoid of vegetation, the Rocher de la Caravelle is located 1.8 miles (3 km) off the coast of the Caravelle peninsula on the eastern coast of Martinique and administratively attached to the municipality of La Trinité.
