The greater flamingo (Phoenicopterus roseus) fascinates with its color that distinguishes it from all other species. It is present all year round in Camargue, its only nesting territory in France. This gregarious species, both migratory, partially migratory and sometimes erratic, is visible in the wild around the 440,000 acres (178,000 ha) of ponds and lagoons which form the Camargue region.
