An owl granting wishes

The popularity of the Chouette de Dijon (Dijon Owl) comes from the 17th-century legend that it would grant the wishes of all who pet it. The ritual follows precise rules: touching the owl with the left hand, the hand of the heart, while putting the right one on one's own heart and turning the back on the little salamander standing on the same facade of Notre-Dame church so that it does not cancel the wish. From the owl's popularity was born the Parcours de la Chouette (Owl's Route), a tourist circuit in the heart of downtown Dijon materialized by small bronze plaques bearing the effigy of the bird.
