Madine Lake covers 2,718 acres (1,100 ha) and has been classified as a National Hunting and Wild Fauna Reserve (RNCFS) since 1998. Home to more than 250 avian species, the site attracts numerous bird watchers. The ornithological observatory of Pointe aux Chênes allows observing the birds on Green Island and Bois Gérard Island. Small openings grant a glimpse of the reed beds where they feed and nest, and a walkway on piles offers a view from above. The observatory is part of Lake Madine's ornithological discovery trail.
