Today, Gorbio is a very green village whose freshwater coverage is insured by the numerous wells that supply its 492 homes and also serve for agriculture. The situation was different until World War II when the village's water points (Piol washhouse, Hanbury fountain, Town Hall fountain, and Place de l'Ormeau fountain) all depended on the Piol water source. At that time, its summer flow was insufficient to meet the needs of the village's dairies and the troops on maneuver in the area.
