An observation post in wartime

The Moulin de Verzenay (Verzenay's Mill) is an emblematic site of Champagne. It suffered significant damage during World War I, as it served as an observation post. The mill fulfilled this function again in 1944 for the U.S. Army. The Moulin de Verzenay was restored in 1949 at the instigation of Mr. Rémy, then director of the Heidsieck vineyards. A violent storm damaged it again in 2013, and its four wings were rebuilt identically. The mill, currently the property of Maison G.H. Mumm, is classified as a Historical Monument.
