The history of the railways is inseparable from the history of France. Through the equipment and images presented at the Cité du Train-Patrimoine SNCF in Mulhouse (Haut-Rhin), it is the evolution of French society that shines through. The museum has a unique collection of rolling stock, models, railway objects, posters, and art objects. A number of well-restored steam, electric and diesel locomotives are on display. A pit dug under the 1936 ‘231 Pacific’ steam locomotive no.3.1192 allows us to learn more about its complex mechanics.
