An isolated and sparsely inhabited massif
0
0
The relief of steep slopes enclosing deep and narrow valleys of the Massif des Maures makes it a region difficult to access and sparsely inhabited. Covered with forests and poor in cultivable land and water points, its central part, the most rugged, remains apart from the main road networks that connect Hyères to Fréjus and allow access to the gulf and peninsula of Saint-Tropez. The interior of the massif only comprises a few villages like Collobrières, La Môle, or La Garde-Freinet. Most of the localities have indeed been established on the periphery of the massif or on its coastal part.
