An island with three vineyards

0
The island of Porquerolles has three vineyards - the Domaine de la Courtade, the Domaine Perzinsky, and the Domaine de l'Île recently acquired by the Chanel fashion house - cultivated on 198 acres (80 ha) of soils ideally composed of sand, clay, and shale. Schists, in particular, favor the finesse of the aromas and the complexity of the wines. The sun and the salty air also benefit the wines to which they give their identity. Some 86 acres (35 ha) of vines planted in the 1980s as a firewall were rehabilitated in 2014 around the Fondation Carmignac (photo).
