The village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape is renowned worldwide for its AOC wines made from thirteen grape varieties. The second most important AOC after Saint-Émilion, the Châteauneuf-du-Pape designation covers 4,890 acres (1,979 ha), i.e. 79.9% of the municipal territory, as well as part of the neighboring municipalities of Orange, Bédarrides, Sorgues, and Courthézon for a total area of 8,155 acres (3,300 ha) of vines exploited by three hundred winegrowers.
