The Vaucluse department is home to remarkable natural sites such as the Luberon Regional Nature Park, listed as a biosphere reserve by UNESCO. It also has numerous picturesque villages (Roussillon, Gordes, Gargas, Bonnieux, or Lacoste) located on the hillsides. From the 1950s and the beginnings of the Avignon Festival, many celebrities and artists discovered the Luberon region and settled there, paving the way for politicians, businessmen, and wealthy foreigners seduced by the authenticity and the sunshine of the Provençal hinterland.
