The town of Collioure on the Côte Vermeille (Vermillion Coast) was an important trading port on the Mediterranean during Antiquity. Its privileged geographical position allowed the exchange of rare products and foodstuffs between the Phoenicians, the Greeks, the Etruscans, and the Romans. A gateway to Collioure from Port-Vendres, the town's port was once frequented by local Protestant families. Today it is a district with small flowery streets.
