The Lac du Der-Chantecoq is an area of national and international importance thanks to its exceptional fauna and flora. A national hunting and wildlife reserve since 1977, it is also classified as Natura 2000. Several hundred thousand migratory birds stop here on their journey south in autumn or north in spring. Other sedentary species live around and on the lake all year round. The main challenge of the site is to direct tourist and fish farming activities towards sustainable and controlled management in order to preserve the tranquillity of bird populations.
