An evolving equipment

The silver vein of Tellure has been exploited from 1549. Since 2009, it can be visited in the form of a via ferrata. The equipment has much improved compared to what miners wore in the Middle Ages. They were seated on a leather skin called tailbone leather and their heads were covered by a hood. If necessary, they flipped the skin to protect their knees during squatting work. They fractured the hard rock with a wedge and a sledgehammer, lit by tallow lamps. The ore was carried to the surface using buckets, winches, and small wagons called mine dogs.
