Madine Lake's National Hunting and Wild Fauna Reserve covers 4,450 acres (1,800 ha) and encompasses its shores and surroundings. The lake shelters more than 250 birds species and around 10% of Lorraine's flora. Some of its water vegetation is of significant importance for the presence of aquatic birds, such as the great fluke, the sharp-leaved pondweed, or the marsh ragwort. They serve as food and nesting support as well as resting areas during migrations.
