An entirely mechanized harvest

In the Camargue, the commune of Aigues-Mortes is known for its salt works. A part of the territory of the salt works is located in the commune of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer and the pumping station of the sea water used for the harvest of salt is located on the border of the Gard and the Bouches-du-Rhône. Although the salt harvest in Aigues-Mortes remained manual for a long time, the techniques were soon overtaken by the quantities produced and by technical improvements, when the harvest finally became fully mechanized.
