With a maximum depth of 65 ft (20 m), the artificial lake of Saint-Agnan in the Yonne department retains a body of water at a constant level by using a gentle natural slope. The bottom of the lake is mainly made up of sand, even if it is particularly encumbered by blocks of stone and numerous stumps of trees at the location of the old dyke reinforced with earth and stones on the lake side.
