The Village des Tortues in Carnoules is an educational and conservation center unique in Europe. Intended for the protection of tortoises, it houses the scientific and conservation activities of the SOPTOM association (Station for the Observation and Protection of Tortoises and their Environments). Installed since 1988 in Gonfaron in the Var department, it moved about 6 miles (10 km) away to the municipality of Carnoules on June 1, 2017, and reopened to the public on June 8 of the same year.
