An earthquake with heavy consequences

0
With a considerable intensity of seven in Castellar, the earthquake of February 23, 1887, was particularly felt around Menton. Its effects waned considerably westward due to the soil made up of massive rock. The houses of the seven hundred inhabitants of Castellar were largely cracked. Most were so heavily damaged that they had to be partially demolished and rebuilt. One hundred and fifty-six families were considered affected, and fifteen houses were entirely destroyed.
