An early Christian influence

In such a shot, the Roman remains of the La Villasse district of the ancient city of Vasio (Vaison-la-Romaine) cohabit with the Romanesque Notre-Dame-de-Nazareth Cathedral built in the 11th century on the right bank of the Ouvèze. This superposition is a reminder of the early establishment of Christianity in Vasio, where a diocese has existed from the 4th century. Two regional councils even met in the city in 442 and 529. The latter is known as the council that saw the introduction of the Kyrie eleison (Lord have mercy) liturgical formula in the Catholic mass.
