An astonishing layout
1
0
Unique in Europe by their depth and length, the Verdon gorges present an astonishing layout linked to the establishment of a thalweg (stream bed) in the Pontian (end of the Miocene and beginning of the Pliocene) on a little inclined cover later undulated by folds. The deepening of about 984 feet (300 meters) of the thalweg then occurred as early as the Pliocene.
