The chapel is one of the oldest places in the Mont Sainte-Odile convent. It consists of a Romanesque nave from the 11th and 12th centuries and a Gothic choir from the 14th century. In 1937, Robert Danis decided to modify Sainte Odile's sarcophagus. Today it is made up of an assemblage of ancient and modern elements. The original sarcophagus is visible through three openings. A bronze plaque mentions: “Sepulcrum Sanctae Odiliae Virginis” (Sepulcher of the virgin Sainte Odile). The altar of the chapel rises on a stone slab that used to stand at the front of the tomb. An alabaster window now replaces the former neo-Romanesque stained glass window.
