An ‘asinerie’ at Carolles

Located in the Manche department, Brigitte Pieau has set up a farm with twenty Cotentin donkeys (Equus asinus) in the village of Carolles. These small donkeys, renowned for their endurance and gentleness, have always roamed the paths of Normandy, but they had almost entirely disappeared due to the mechanisation of agriculture. She therefore contributes to the preservation of their breed and to making them better known to the general public. She has also established a partnership with the ‘Conservatoire du littoral’ (French Coastal Protection Agency) to maintain the small paths of the Norman bocage with her donkeys.
