An artificial lake closed by five levees

The lac d'Orient was conceived in the heart of humid Champagne, not far from Troyes, in the middle of the Orient Forest Regional Nature Park. Five compacted silt levees close the natural basin. They are located in Géraudot, Chavaudon, Beaumont, la Morge and Mesnil-Saint-Père. Over a total length of more than 3,5 mi (5,7 km) and a height varying from 13 to 82 ft (4 to 25 m), they complement the natural variations of the terrain. In 2018, however, the lac d'Orient filled up, and the dykes could not hold the water back.
