An area monitored by Natura 2000

Almost the entire Rhône delta (Petite Camargue, Grande Camargue, and Plan du Bourg) is monitored by the Natura 2000 network. Natura 2000 is the largest coordinated network of protected areas in the world. It covers more than 18% of the land surface of the European Union and more than 8% of its marine territory. The Camargue Regional Nature Park currently hosts eight Natura 2000 sites, including the Grande Camargue, the marshes of the Baux Valley, the marshes of Arles, and the sandy banks of Espiguette (a marine site). The Camargue Regional Nature Park is invested in the protection and management of natural and cultural heritage and in land use planning.
