An arched wall

0
Behind the Memorial, an arched wall presents the names of 1,557 soldiers who were never found or identified; a youth lost in the waters of the English Channel or on the sand of the landing beaches. Carved laurel branches separate each stone plaque. Every year, on Memorial Day and on 6 June, two small American and French flags are planted at the foot of each headstone and all along the Wall of the Missing. When visiting, relatives and friends of the buried soldiers apply sand from the beach down below to the engraved letters of the stones’ crosses or stars, so as to give them golden hues.
