The Savane des Pétrifications (Savannah of Petrifications) extends in the municipality of Sainte-Anne near the renowned Salines beach at the southeastern tip of Martinique. It is formed by an ancient dried marsh installed on the site of a very old volcano. It is dominated by one of its remains, the Morne des Pétrifications, which culminates at 390 ft (119 m). The Savane des Pétrifications, whose altitude is close to zero, adjoins the sea and Pointe de l'Enfer over 25 acres (10 ha). It faces the emerged rock of the Table du Diable (Devil's Table), the subject of many legends.
