The presence of bovids in Camargue dates back to Antiquity. Shaped by the wild environment in which it lives, the Camargue bull is a rustic and slender animal with a thin head and an always very dark coat. Its size does not exceed 4.26 ft (1.30 m) at the withers. Its horns, directed vertically towards the sky in the shape of a perfect lyre in females and a goblet in males, are the most typical characteristic of the breed.
