An almost undetectable cicada
With its more or less dark gray body measuring 1.9 to 3.1 inches (5 to 8cm) and blending into the trunk on which it attaches, the cicada's presence is usually signaled by its song. At rest, its four long translucent wings with thick veins are arranged along its body like the two sides of a roof. As a potential danger draws near, the fearful cicada flies away and turns silent, making its detection almost impossible.
