Unlike the well-pronounced sexual dimorphism characteristic of many species of birds, it is difficult to distinguish males from females in greater flamingos (Phœnicopterus roseus). The two have the exact same plumage, perform the rituals together in the courtship displays, build the nests, incubate the eggs, and feed the young. Only the slightly larger size in males can sometimes help differentiate them.
