The Vieux Salins of Hyères are bordered to the east and north by agricultural and horticultural lands and greenhouses that recall the vocation of the city. Renowned for the precocity of its early vegetables, fruits, and flowers, Hyères is indeed the leading agricultural municipality in France in terms of the number of farmers. Its agricultural sector generates 4,000 direct and indirect jobs, and its farmed areas represent a quarter of the municipal territory with 7,820 acres (3,165 ha). France's largest horticultural center, thanks to the SICA flower market, Hyères cultivates 70% of the national cut flower production in its greenhouses.
