Instead, it guarantees space for its future eggs and externally presents the ovipositor necessary for laying. Placed against the abdomen at rest, this egg-laying organ, similar to an auger, is used by the female to pierce the support (rod, branch) in which she hides the four hundred or so eggs she lays.
