Amherstia nobilis est une plante de la famille des Fabacées, originaire de Thaïlande et de Birmanie. C’est un arbre appelé aussi «arbre à orchidées » pour ses fleurs extra-ordinaires. Il est largement cultivé sous les tropiques. Ici à Tahiti.
Les fleurs poussent sur une longue inflorescence d’un rouge cramoisi. Le pétale le plus long peut mesurer 7 centimètres de long.
