Amédée islet, a tourist site and nature reserve

Despite its huge frequentation, particularly on week-ends, the Amédée islet - located about 12.4mi (20km) off Nouméa - is classified as a nature reserve. Fishing and collecting flowers are prohibited. It shelters 63 different plant species, of which around thirty have been introduced, and it is wooded with banyan trees, coconut palms, bouraos and filao trees.
