Amédée islet, a tourist hotspot near Nouméa

Located in the south lagoon of Grande-Terre, 13 nautical miles off Nouméa, the Amédée islet is classified as a protected natural area. However, it remains a tourist hotspot, notably because of its eponymous lighthouse, the only metal lighthouse in France and the second tallest of its type in the world. The islet is accessible from Nouméa thanks to the Mary-D boat which organizes day trips combining a visit of the lighthouse, lazing in the farés shadow, exploring the lagoon, lunch and Melanesian dances.
