After the disaster of the 17th-century wars, Alsace experiences a substantial flourishing, thanks to the reconstruction and a demographic takeoff. The 18th century appears to be the golden age of the traditional Alsatian house. It is more spacious and better arranged. The buildings benefit from new techniques brought by immigrants, in particular from Switzerland, like the Schini carpenters dynasty. The short timber remains the usual method of construction. It offers greater rigidity and solidity to the houses. These techniques carry on for decades, even after the German annexation of 1870.
