The Fontfroide vineyard is located on the edge of scrubland, on sandy-clay soils. This terroir has been cultivated for nearly a thousand years. The first exploitation of the vines by the monks dates back to the foundation of the abbey in the 11th century. The richness of the vineyard is now maintained and preserved by the descendants of the Fayet family, who bought the abbey in 1908.
