Breastfeeding the baby elephant
1
0
Female elephants nurse their young for about 3 to 4 years. The little one can drink up to ten liters a day. However, this feeding practice often requires a little assistance at the beginning to access to one of the mother's two teats. Newborns are generally helped by a kind of maternal assistant, another female elephant of the clan which accompanies the mother, supports her in her daily tasks and helps with her trunk the baby elephant to find its mother’s breasts. These interactions testify to the incredible social dispositions of elephants.
