Le Grand Plantain d’eau est une plante herbacée de la famille des Alismatacées.
C’est une plante qui pousse en eau peu profonde. Sa hampe florale peut atteindre 1 mètre de hauteur.
Son inflorescence est ramifiée et porte de nombreuses petites fleurs qui s’ouvrent l’après-midi et qui comportent 3 pétales ronds blancs ou rose pâle. Elle fleurit de juin à août.
