In the coral reefs, the fish feeding on a resource based on the hard substrate are the most numerous. By browsing the end of branched corals or the surface of massive colonies, the corallivorous fish absorb a superficial portion of the coral skeleton as well as the animal tissues of the polyps which contain the symbiotic algae. They are both carnivorous and herbivorous.
