Alain Colas est un navigateur français né le 16 septembre 1943 , connu pour sa victoire dans la Transat anglaise 1972 et pour son record du tour du monde à la voile en solitaire en 1973, obtenus sur Pen Duick IV rebaptisé Manureva. Il est l'initiateur de la construction du grand monocoque Club Méditerranée avec lequel il termine cinquième de la Transat anglaise 1976. Il est le premier à s'appuyer sur le pouvoir des médias pour développer le sponsoring.
