Esta especie presenta una amplitud alar entre los 95 y los 120 milímetros. Es nocturno. Se alimenta del néctar de las flores de garganta profunda, incluida la flor de luna, y las petunias.
Su cuerpo robusto es de color marrón grisáceo con bandas rosadas. El abdomen se estrecha hasta un punto. Las alas traseras son grises con bandas negras y rosadas en la base.
