Agricultural economy of the Austral islands
The Australs are the southernmost archipelago of French Polynesia. Close to the Tropic of Capricorn, they enjoy a temperate climate, favorable to vegetable and horticultural crops (potato, carrot, watermelon ...). Pandanus is also cultivated to maintain the tradition of basketry of the archipelago. Tubuai is the agricultural island 'par excellence', even if many jointly owned lands are not exploited.
