Native of the Southern African continent, the African Green Pigeon occupies a wide variety of habitats. It particularly likes densely forested areas, especially where it can find certain categories of trees such as fig trees (Ficus), brachystegia and combretum. It settles willingly in cultivated areas, especially in the plantations of fruit trees and in gardens. In more arid regions, it is found in the savannah in the tree galleries along the rivers.
