African Baobab : the giant of the vegetal world

The African baobab is a typical tree of the dry wooded savannah, where it stands among acacias, tamarinds and albizias. Sacred for many cultures, it is the tree of life. Very massive, this giant reaches 82ft (25m) in height and 39ft (12m) in circumference. Its bark has the particularity of being able to regenerate itself. Its wood is soft and spongy. Its flowering, at the beginning of the rainy season, takes the form of large white flowers hanging on long stems. Its fruits are surrounded by a shell and contain seeds coated with dehydrated pulp. Edible, they are very rich in vitamins and contain twice as much calcium as milk.
