Visits to the Chartreuse de la Verne begin through its monumental door in serpentine stone, a volcanic marble from the Maures Massif extracted from the quarry of the neighboring village of La Môle. The buildings currently open to visitors mainly date from the 17th and 18th centuries, when they were restored and adorned with serpentine stone. This hard green stone has, ever since, become one of the symbols of the monastery and decorates the monumental parts of its portals, pediments, and arches.
